Artist Kat Hastie In Conversation with Polly Buxton!

  • Buxton Books 160 King Street Charleston, SC United States (map)

Please join us to celebrate artist Kat Hastie and her first book, The Arena, a compilation of her art and words representing her decades long career. Kat will be in conversation with our very own Polly Buxton!

Kat Hastie was born in Charleston, but grew up across the Cooper River in Mount Pleasant on a vegetable farm. She graduated from the College of Charleston in 1970 and lived and painted downtown for most of her adult life.  The freedom and closeness to nature of her early life, thought-provoking ideas, and relationships of people she has encountered have been the primary influences on the evolution of her work. This book is her story told through her paintings.

“Hastie’s thirst for new visual languages is self-evident throughout this compendium, but it’s her ability to swirl in familiar palettes and marks from her past that bring her personal vision to light. Through Kat’s masterful hand and her deliberate twists away from the expected, I find myself hanging onto every thread, every painted souvenir from her journey.” Tim Hussey, contemporary fine art painter.
