CLS' Shakespeare on the Steps: Two Gentleman of Verona

  • The Charleston Library Society 164 King Street Charleston, SC, 29401 United States (map)

Join our neighbors, The Charleston Library Society as they present the first show of their new series Shakespeare on the Steps with Two Gentleman of Verona.

Join CLS on Sunday, March 12, as they transform their front steps into a stage for a plein air performance of Two Gentlemen of Verona. A collaboration between CLS’s Igoe Shakespeare Library and Special Collections Archives at the Charleston Library Society and the College of Charleston’s Department of Theatre and Dance, the abbreviated show will run for roughly 45 minutes.

A story of love and friendship, conflict and reprisal, infidelity and the foolish behavior of people in love, Two Gentlemen is one of Shakespeare’s most-loved (and oft-quoted) plays (see below).

Tickets to Two Gentlemen of Verona are free and open to the public. Just be sure to reserve your spot early. Seating will be limited, and we expect a large and lively crowd to turn out for this one-of-a-kind event. Need more encouragement to show your support by registering today? Look no further than the man himself, who penned the following entreaty for this very play: “They do not love, that do not show their love…”

To RSVP please visit The Charleston Library Society website.
