Buxton Books is proud to be the bookseller for Piccolo Spoleto’s Sundown Poetry series. Each installment will take place at Washington Square Park at 6:00 pm and will consist of a reading by the evening’s featured poet. A book signing and reception will immediately follow at Buxton Books, just a short walk from where the readings are held. This is a free event, open to all. No RSVPs required.
Monday, June 2- Kendra Lawson
Kendra Hamilton, a Charleston native, is an associate professor at Presbyterian College, with a new nonfiction book as of June 2024 entitled Romancing the Gullah in the Age of Porgy and Bess. She is a Cave Canem fellow whose recent art reflects her research into the lives of enslaved Americans, and whose poetry appears in The Norton Anthology of Contemporary African American Poetry and The Ringing Ear: Black Poets Lean South.
